Castle of Titicaca

Story of the Castle

Everything begins by the end of the 20th century when a man made a supposedly mad dream.

In 1995, Belgian-born Christian Nonis had already been living in South America for fifteen years. He knew this part of the world intimately, having crossed it countless times from East to West and from South to North. He had fallen deeply in love with the continent, with Peru, with its people, and even more so with Lake Titicaca and its surroundings. The great lake had completely enchanted him from the very first moment they met, so many years ago.

At that time, Christian Nonis loved exploring the fabulous region of Puno, uncovering the incredible treasures of a land still underestimated by many.

In 1995, during one of his many adventures, he discovered Charcas — a landscape of red sandstone outcrops sheltering small white-sand beaches. It was love at first sight. He knew instantly that this was where he wanted to build his home.

Over the years, he purchased the necessary plots of land, piece by piece, to realize his dream.

In 2002, construction began with the help of local residents. By 2003, the Castle was coming to life, becoming a reality. It was here that Christian chose to settle, as close as possible to the lake he loved so deeply.

From the very beginning, he was supported by Blas, a young man from the nearby community. Today considered his adopted son, Blas plays an active role in managing this spectacular place, born between sky and lake.
